The way to find out about Happy
“The way to find out about happiness is to keep your mind on those moments when you feel most happy, when you are really happy – not excited, not just thrilled, but deeply happy. This requires a little bit of self-analysis. What is it that makes you happy? Stay with it, no matter what people tell you. This is what is called following your bliss.” Joseph Campbell

Appreciate
My friend Carrie talks often about "what is appreciated, appreciates". It is true for kindness and fun and silliness and happiness and smiles too.
I'm working in a cafe today and the barrista behind the counter is just about the happiest coffee worker I've ever seen. He is smiling and friendly and helpful and genuinely seems like he's enjoying his time spent making cappucinos and doling out sandwiches. Each interaction he is chatty and funny and each person walks away from the counter feeling happier than they were before they stepped up to the counter to order. Even one guy, who walked in with a bit of angry fire in his eyes, and stared down the barrista because his receipt was taking a little too long, left feeling a little bit better about his day because, while he was fuming and snorting about how long it was taking, the barrista just looked at him, without saying a word, and smiled, smiled, smiled. Until finally the angry dude just had to smile too and he was genuinely appreciative for having his anger recognized and diffused.
So, try it - from both points of view. Appreciate what happy vibes others are sending your way and appreciate others who might need a little TLC to help get them through the day.
